Collette Riley Signature strength

I've been working with a fab lady Theresa Maitland who has a mission, like me, to empower people and neighbourhoods and improve our communities. She is a lady like no other and is determined that Paisley will become known for the passion of it's people and shake off the problems of the past too many years.

Theresa has formed and is launching a community group called Neighbourhood Challenge - the aim is which is to inspire and support local people do something in their local neighbourhood to connect with the people in it (how many of us actually know our neighbours AND chap their door to make sure they're ok if we haven't seen them for a while?) and create a plan to make it better in whatever way that is for them.

This is about mass localism - re-empowering people to create the changes they want in their local area and connecting them with the resources and support to make it happen.

Our achievements in our local press.

The Neighbourhood Challenge believe that the environment can be a main contributor to mental health and well being, and aim to raise awareness on ‘stigma and discrimination’ surrounding mental ill health.

Neighbourhood Challenge invited the local people living in the Wardrop Street, George Street and Storie Street area to join in a clean up. There was a good response to the challenge which saw great results, as can be seen from the photos.

The group hope to do more clean ups, and raise awareness on Mental Health and Stigma. There is an event on the 23rd August, in the School Wynd Paisley, this event is called “Breaking Barriers” which will portray real stories of lived experience of Stigma and Discrimination. There is also a short play, called ” Neighburs” this short play has been written by the cast.
